Dave Karlsson is Managing Director of Station Linné, an independent field station on Öland, an island in the Baltic Sea southeast of the Swedish mainland. He defended his licentiate thesis in February 2010; his thesis concerned Swedish insect diversity in general and opiine braconid systematics in particular. Dave's specialty is morphological and biological diversity of the Hymenoptera. Recently, he has been working on a detailed study of braconid morphology, including an in-depth discussion of the terminology applied to skeletal structures in these wasps in an effort to standardize terminology across the Hymenoptera. Since 2003 Dave has been in the project management of the Swedish Malaise Trap Project (SMTP), a huge biodiversity survey that has contributed much data and many exciting specimens for further scientific studies. His interest in insects started before elementary school age, and his knowledge of the Swedish insect fauna—especially Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera—is broad.
